April’s banner is by:

My friend Simon Winheld.  Simon is the cousin of my good friend’s fiance, I’ve been hanging out and talking comics and art with Simon for a long time.  He’s been featured in a few indy comics as well as Heavy Metal Magazine.  If you’re wondering what this is its a Dobhar-Chu, which is a creature from Irish folklore that hung around a lake.  The story goes that this massive chimera of otter/dog/fish with a cross on it’s white back devoured a woman doing laundry in the lake. Here’s Simon talking about it:

What I love about this creature is that it’s a cool amalgamation of different creatures, and really an otter isn’t something you usually think about as scary so I could really have fun with that. Plus it’s from old-time Ireland, so on a design level I drew from The Book of Kells, this old celtic pagan book with beautiful imagery and designs.

March’s banner is by:

David Aja, from an interior panel of Daredevil #116. Copyright Marvel Comics, March 2009.

David Aja previously worked with Brubaker on IRON FIST.  When the he, Brubaker, and Fraction left that book I’ve been quite eager to see where Aja would pop up next.  So when I picked up Daredevil #116 this week, and saw his name in the credits, I bounced with glee since its been so long since I’d seen anything by him. This month’s banner is my favorite panel from that Daredevil issue.  Aja is one of my favorite artists working today.

I figure its best to add some background to this panel. This issue featured the Kingpin, and where he’s been since the death of his wife. The entire arc, starting with this issue, is about his return to New York and is named “Return of the King.”
